Food stylists and photographers Fred Turko and Elliot Shaffner are coming to Johnson City for a unique series of workshops

An amazing opportunity for both professional artists and the general public to hone their food styling and photography skills with help from Fred Turko and Elliott Shaffner of Fred + Elliott Photography. This talented couple from Richmond, Virginia boasts a long list of impressive clients, including Coca-Cola, Chips Ahoy, Hamilton Beach, and both Duke’s and Hellman’s Mayonnaise. They have also worked with publications such as Bon Appétit, Garden and Gun, The Local Palate, and Virginia Living, among others. Each of the three classes offered in the Create-A-Stir Series will demonstrate a different aspect of food styling.

“Tips, Tricks, and Hands-On: Food Styling for Photographers” (Saturday, April 4. 9 AM to 4 PM at The Crown Center, Food City, 1205 N. Eastman Rd., Kingsport.) This day-long workshop is designed for professional photographers and others who work in advertising and marketing. The morning session will feature tips, tricks, and demos by Fred + Elliott, while the afternoon session will offer participants hands-on practice in creating photographic scenarios with food and props. “Creating an Instagram-Worthy Holiday Table” (Sunday, April 5. 2-3:30 PM, Boone Street Market, 101 Boone Street, Jonesborough.) The general public is invited to enjoy this interactive demonstration perfect for those who love to entertain. Fred + Elliott will show how to set a beautiful and welcoming table that will be the toast of your guests and the envy of your followers on social media. “Food Styling for Chefs” (Monday, April 6. 9 AM to 12 noon at Timber!, 415 W Walnut Street, Johnson City). This session is customized for chefs and other food professionals who need to take great food photos and videos on the fly, without the aid of special lighting or equipment. Participants will leave with new skills and confidence in their ability to tell a beautiful story about their food with photos and video, using just a cell phone camera. Sponsored by Timber!
