Call for artists! Deadline Extended to October 4, 2020

Announcing a special art exhibition and competition specifically for The Appalachian Highlands, home to one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems in the United States. As artists, we draw our inspiration from this abundance and celebrate it. For this competition, we are seeking artistic works in all visual medias that highlight our natural botanical bounty.

leaf & root & berry: an Appalachian Highlands Botanical Art Exhibition is a collaboration between Create Appalachia and HERBalachia in affiliation with the annual Sassafras Moon Herbal Festival in Erwin, Tennessee. Covid-19 has shut down the festival this year, but this exhibition can still go on thanks to the Town of Erwin merchants who are donating their windows to allow us to have a safe outdoor gallery experience. The exhibition will be on display in Erwin from November 1, 2020- January 31, 2021. It will also be featured in an online gallery. All works will be for sale, so we encourage you to support the artists. Also, watch for small pop up events during the exhibition’s run in Erwin that will continue the spirit of the Sassafras Moon Festival.

Jurors for the event are Fine art jeweler and potter Nell Fredericksen, Sugar Grove Studio, Ferrum, VA; Becky Mallory, Artist, Greenville, TN; and Michelle Bouton, Founder of HERBalachia, Unicoi, TN.
